The Challenge

Many residency faculty lack formal training in instructional strategies and assessment methods. The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) wanted to equip those faculty with the essential skills for residency education through a comprehensive online program. The challenge was to create a flexible, engaging program that fit into their busy schedules while addressing these knowledge gaps.

The Solution

We designed the program with:

  • Self-Paced Courses: Faculty complete 14 structured modules at their own pace.
  • Engaging Content: Storyline modules, real-world scenarios, and faculty-led videos enhance learning.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Pre-tests, quizzes, assignments, and personalized instructor feedback ensure comprehension.
  • Extended Access: Participants have up to a year to complete the program and retain material access for another year.

The Results

  • Better Faculty Preparation: Participants gain critical skills for effective teaching and professional development.
  • Improved Faculty Retention: Building the skills and confidence of new residency faculty reduces burnout and enhances career satisfaction
  • Recognized Certification: Graduates receive a certificate, recognition letter, and press release.

This program effectively prepares residency faculty for their roles, ensuring they can teach, assess, and mentor residents with confidence.
